Green Fuels: Fueling Our FutureJune 26, 2014
On Thursday, June 26, 2014 at DM Recycling in Fife, WA, over 50 recycling and waste professionals attended our first Washington Recycles Every Day (WRED) event of the summer, “Green Fuels: Fueling Our Future.” This one-day workshop highlighted local companies and facilities working to promote a sustainable future by recycling what is normally considered waste into green energy.
WRED attendees began the day touring RockTenn’s Cogeneration plant located in Tacoma, WA where they weaved through the inner operations of the plant and discovered how it utilizes existing biomass steam sources to produce green fuel. From there, attendees headed over to Emerald Recycling’s facility in Tacoma, WA that recycles products like used motor oil, antifreeze and solvents to produce their primary product, low-sulfur marine diesel oil.
Following the tours, participants reconvened at DM Recycling for a networking lunch and afternoon of presentations and further discussion on the topic of green fuels.
