Summer jobs for Central Washington teens
Ecology Youth Corps cleans state highways, protects environment

YAKIMA – The Washington Department of Ecology’s Central Regional Office in Yakima plans to hire about 70 teenagers throughout Central Washington this summer as part of the Ecology Youth Corps. Teens who join the corps will help to clean up area roadsides, parks and recreation areas, preserving Washington’s natural beauty and protecting our state’s environment.
Teens chosen for the youth corps will work up to 35 hours per week, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. They will be assigned to a crew based in Ellensburg, Goldendale, Richland, Sunnyside, Toppenish or Yakima, and will work in one of two four-week sessions: June 29 to July 22, or July 23 to Aug. 13. Participants will earn $9.47 an hour.

Applicants must be ages 14-17 as of June 29. Applications are due by March 30 and are available through area school counselors and at www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/swfa/eyc.

For more information, contact Rod Hankinson in Ecology’s Yakima office at rodney.hankinson@ecy.wa.gov or 509-454-7209.
