Workshop Discusses Future of Current Paper Recycling System

Tukwila, WA, September 9, 2014 –The Washington State Recycling Association (WSRA), a nonprofit organization representing the state’s diverse recycling industry, presents their last Washington Recycles Every Day (WRED) event of the year, "Future of Fiber II: Emerging Trends & Technology.” This business networking educational workshop will take place on Friday, September 19 from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm at the banquet room of The Landing Mall in Port Angeles, WA.

This event is part two in the Future of Fiber series that began last September at the Future of Fiber: Emerging Issues & Trends WRED event at the LeMay Pierce County Refuse site. At the upcoming part II event, participants will be brought full circle along the current path of curbside and office paper recycling, from the collector, to bale brokers, the mill and recycled paper brokers. 

Participants will hear from experts in the fiber industry speak about the transformation, challenges and trends of the current fiber recycling system. A highlight of this event will be an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Nippon Paper Mill, a fully integrated pulp and paper mill specializing in directory papers and other lightweight printed papers. For 94 years, the mill has been a significant part of the history and prosperity of the City of Port Angeles.


This event is open to the public and includes lunch, topic discussions and networking opportunities with leaders in Washington’s recycling industry. Students and professors in the environmental science fields, as well as young environmental professionals are highly encouraged to participate. Registration costs are as follows: WSRA members $65, Non-members $85, students with a valid student ID $40. Registration is limited to 50 participants.

WSRA is offering an option to partake in a ‘buspool’ that will leave the WSRA office in Tukwila, WA at 6:30 AM, drive attendees to the event and return to the WSRA office at approximately 5:30 PM.
