CleanScapes to Begin Compost, Recycling and Garbage Service in City of SeaTac in 2014

City voted on seven year contract to offer expanded services and collection options

City of SeaTac, Wash., (October 9, 2013) –Last night the SeaTac City Council unanimously approved a seven year contract with CleanScapes for garbage, recycling and compost/yard waste services beginning June 1, 2014. The contract will offer expanded services such as a seven day per week call center and more curbside collection options including motor oil, bottled kitchen fat/oil/grease, plastics, scrap metal, household batteries, fluorescent tubes and bulky items.

"We are pleased that the highly competitive process generated by our request for proposals resulted in a great outcome for the community, its residents and businesses,” said SeaTac Mayor Tony Anderson. "All of our taxpayers – residents and businesses alike– will benefit from the enhanced level of service from CleanScapes.”

CleanScapes will use trucks that are lighter and will lead to less wear and tear on city streets. The company will also begin working with the City on a transition plan that will include extensive outreach to the community that will include two public open houses to allow residents to meet the CleanScapes staff, ask questions and see what enhanced services they will provide for the city.

"We appreciate the Council’s support and are excited about serving the City of SeaTac,” said CleanScapes President and Founder Chris Martin.  "Partnering with the City, we intend to raise the bar for environmental stewardship by providing exceptional service to residents and businesses.”

CleanScapes was founded in Seattle, Washington in 1997, and currently provides sustainable solid waste and recycling collection to the communities of Seattle, Shoreline, Issaquah, Des Moines and Carnation. Beginning June 1, 2014 CleanScapes will also serve the City of SeaTac and the City of Burien.
