WRED - Greening the Game

This WRED event will look at food’s lifecycle in some of Seattle’s biggest venues. Stadiums and sports organizations are thinking about all aspects when it comes to food: food production and its environmental impacts, food waste prevention, sustainable packaging, and food waste composting. This event is in partnership with the Green Sports Alliance, highlighting local and regional leaders, as well as behind the scenes tours of both Safeco and CenturyLink stadiums. Greening the Game 

Stadiums and sports are going green – and one focus of this is food. This WRED event will look at food’s lifecycle in some of Seattle’s biggest venues. Stadiums and sports organizations are thinking about all aspects when it comes to food: food production and its environmental impacts, food waste prevention, sustainable packaging, and food waste composting. Learn about the leaders in (and on) the field, and hear about best practices and ideas for environmentally thoughtful food choices. This event is in partnership with the Green Sports Alliance, highlighting local and regional leaders, as well as behind the scenes tours of both Safeco and CenturyLink stadiums.

Following the our WRED programming, the Green Sports Alliance and CenturyLink Stadium will be hosting a networking event!  Each guest will receive two drinks and appetizers.


FEATURED PRESENTERS:


   Justin Zeulner,  Executive Director, Green Sports Alliance
Justin J. Zeulner, Executive Director and founding Board Member of the Green Sports Alliance, is one of the principal leaders of the sports greening movement. Zeulner has helped guide the Green Sports Alliance in reaching critical mass and major influence within the global sports industry. Prior to joining the Green Sports Alliance, Zeulner was a Senior Project Developer at Vulcan, Inc., the philanthropic and innovation company founded by Paul G. Allen. In this role, he was responsible for public engagement and campaign development around conservation and climate change. Prior to that, he served as Senior Director for Sustainability and Public Affairs for the Portland Trail Blazers. Among his accomplishments there, he was directly involved in environmental initiatives that led to the Trail Blazers assuming a leadership role in the greening of sports movement and the Moda Center achieving LEED Gold status, the first LEED Gold existing building in professional sports in the world. A graduate of the University of Oregon with a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Zeulner is a native of Portland, Oregon.

 

 Casey Funke, District Manager, Cedar Grove  Organics Recycling
With Cedar Grove since 2013, Casey Funke, district manager, has an extensive knowledge of the waste industry with a specialization in commercial composting and recycling. Funke works closely with commercial customers in the Seattle and Puget Sound areas to implement, manage, and grow composting programs. Funke also works with the agriculture community to promote the use of Cedar Grove compost on farms as an alternative to commercial fertilizers.

Funke holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Washington in Economics and Environmental Studies.






 

Domenic Calabro,  Materials Management and Stewardship Team,  U.S. EPA, Region 10
Domenic Calabro is a waste prevention specialist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Pacific Northwest regional office, as a member of the EPA’s Materials Management and Stewardship team. Domenic is the regional lead for EPA partnership programs, business sustainability, the greening of public venues, and commercial food waste prevention. Domenic holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Maryland and is a recipient of EPA’s Pollution Prevention Leadership Award.









  Grant Braasch, Business Development Manager, NatureWorks
Grant Braasch has been with NatureWorks since the company was formed, some 15 years ago, and is currently Business Development Manager for the Food Serviceware business segment as well as serving as NatureWorks’ Global Customer Service Manager for the last 4 years. In his Business Development role, Grant has worked extensively with manufacturers, food serviceware distributors and a breadth of stadiums and arenas to support their zero waste initiatives with more sustainable solutions using naturally advanced Ingeo based compostable food serviceware.
