Thursday, April 14th - Greening Affordable Housing & Building Science

Affordable housing availability is a major issue in our region, but the many social, financial, and regulatory challenges of building affordable housing can often preclude the inclusion of sustainable features. While the upfront costs of incorporating green building elements may be higher, the lifecycle implications of reduced energy and water bills, improved indoor air quality, and reduced toxins exposure can help developers, residents, and communities realize long term economic and health benefits of sustainable design while reducing environmental impacts.

Join us for this exciting opportunity to talk about the nexus of affordable housing and high performance building. Local and national housing affordability and building science experts will discuss strategies to take affordable housing standards to the next level using innovative approaches like passive house, Living Building Challenge, and net positive energy and water certifications. This roundtable integrates high performance building science into the conversation and shares best practices and practical solutions for policy makers and implementers, financing agencies, and designers and builders to produce and preserve sustainable, healthy affordable housing.

Brown Bag: As a lunchtime event, you are welcome to bring lunch to enjoy during the Roundtable.
Hosted by the Housing Development Consortium and King County GreenTools.
