Plastic Ocean, Plastic People: A Conversation with Captain Charles Moore, Algalita Marine Research and Education, Long Beach, CA

 Jan 13, 2016 at 10:00 AM PST.

Moderated by Neil Seldman, Institute for Local Self-Reliance, Washington, DC

Since 1997 Captain Moore has been traveling the oceans tracking the accumulation of plastic residue from solid waste generated throughout the globe. He discovered the Great Garbage Patch in the North Pacific Ocean and has reported on the bleak prospects these accumulation zones represent for the future.

Since publishing his findings and insights in 2011 in Plastic Ocean: How a Sea Captain's Launched a Determined Quest to Save the Oceans, Captain Moore now reports that the deterioration of the oceans is rapidly increasing.

Listen to Captain Moore discuss the coming dystopia of Plastic Ocean-Plastic People based on his most recent research voyage in December, 2015 in Long Beach, CA, and his August, 2014 gyre voyage where he actually walked on a newly discovered plastic island.
