Environmental Emergency Response – Planning for Industry

Technical Seminar Hosted by the Northwest Environmental Business Council (NEBC)
Wednesday, June 24
7:30 - 11:30 am (breakfast at 7:30, program at 8:00 am)

Environmental emergencies within industrial facilities threaten employee and public safety, health, and welfare. Emergency response is the process of organizing, coordinating, and directing resources to quickly bring the situation under control and to minimize the impact of the event on the community and the environment.

Every facility with potentially dangerous chemicals or processes needs a formal emergency response plan so that it can rapidly evaluate the human and environmental health impacts of the event, assess and reduce human exposures to contaminants, and develop science-based strategies for remediation and rebuilding. Our panel of experts will discuss planning and preparedness for an environmental emergency, including Washington State’s regulatory requirements, the role of an emergency response lead, the use of contractors, and the design and implementation of remediation. Ample time will be provided for Q&A and discussion.

Speakers:
Jeffrey Gutschmidt, Hazardous Waste Specialist, Department of Ecology
Jason Potts, Western Regional Emergency Repose Manager, NRC
Peter T Masson, Environmental Planning & Permitting Lead, Western Region Coordinator, CRA FIRST, Conestoga-Rovers & Associates (CRA)
