Join WSRA for a Cultural Competency training with presenter Maketa Wilborn! Through the use of Maketa's graphic facilitation process, participants will ultimately expand their ability to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures.

 Training Goals

The WSRA cultural competency  training is designed to help recycling professionals expand their skills in working with diverse audiences. The overarching goals for the training are to assist participants to:

  • Build greater awareness of  personal and organizational cultures, issues, and opportunities;
  • Examine how our personal and organizational cultures affect our ability to work across difference; and
  • Build skills to increase competencies as we work with others who are different from us.

About the Presenter

Maketa (pronounced "Ma-kay-ta")  Wilborn is a organizational development consultant, facilitator, artist and educator. For over 10 years he has been leading individuals and groups toward their objectives and their highest potential. His passion for building intentional and engaged communities shines through his innovative and integrated approach. 

Maketa’s approach is grounded in appreciative inquiry, experiential learning and visual mapping, and he works from the belief that creating and sustaining exceptional relationships is the core of successful outcomes.


Using his experience as an educator, facilitator and artist, Maketa employs an inquiry-based approach that effectively draws out the collective knowledge of the group and inspires participation and creative problem-solving.  He invites participants to take a creative approach and challenges them to take risks in order to uncover new possibilities for themselves and their organizations.
