LEED v4 Materials Series - SLUG Hosts Expert Life
Cycle Assessment Speaker
The Seattle LEED User Group (SLUG) of the Cascadia Green Building Council invites you to join in a learning opportunity on the LEED v4 rating system. From Life Cycle Assessment to material sourcing, the LEED v4 rating system is helping to change the way we look at building materials.
Part two of the series introduces two new materials credits in the version 4 rating system: Building Life-Cycle Impact Reduction and Building Product Disclosure and Optimization - Sourcing of Raw Materials.
In this presentation, the Life Cycle Assessment process is explained along with the relationship between program operators, product category rules, and Environmental Product Declarations.
Our guest speaker, Dr. Rita Schenck, is a Life Cycle Assessment expert. She founded the Institute for Environmental Research and Education (IERE), an environmental non-profit dedicated to fact-based environmental decision-making. Dr. Schenck represented the US in negotiating the international LCA standards, and continues to work at the national and international level. Dr. Schenck will provide insight into the Life Cycle Assessment of building materials, a deeper understanding of how Environmental Product Declarations are created, and an honest view of where the U.S market is today.
