Workshop Description

The UO Sports Product Management Workshop: "Sustainability From Design to Manufacturing" will focus on integration of sustainable business practices at both a company and individual level. It will focus on why sustainability isn't about gaining a competitive advantage, but about systemic change. The workshop will build understanding of the risks and opportunities as they relate to ROI and costs related to sustainable business practices in the Sports Product Industry. We will answer the question of "why do businesses focus on sustainable business practices and what are the costs of not following these practices?" The two day workshop will focus on building an understanding of the current reality, the global trends and accomplishments of leaders both in and out of the sports product industry and take a holistic view at sustainability through multiple different lenses such as political, environmental, economical and social.

Industry sustainability leaders Darcy Winslow (Managing Partner at The Academy for Systemic Change) , Jamie Bainbridge (Materials research director at nau) Scott Welch (Global Corporate Relations Manager, Columbia Sportswear Company) and Sharla Settlemier (VP of Sustainable Manufacturing and Sourcing at Nike) will bring this course to life with group participation exercises being facilitated by Ann Marie Lei (Owner/Consultant Ann Marie Lei Consulting).

You will also be included in a Sports Product industry networking event taking place on Friday night between the two day session.

If you have any questions, please call the UO Academic Extension office at 800-824-2714; or 541-346-4231.
